Abstract
This article identifies the connections, disconnections, and intersections of the four sectors of the Australian outdoor industry as it negotiates the path towards professional status, and highlights the some of the implications this might have for it. The development of appropriate professional pathways is seen as an evolutionary process. This article addresses the signpost to a profession that deals with admission to that profession as described in current literature, and highlights the role of tertiary education in this endeavour.
