DRY WINES from Portugal are not nearly so popular as the sweet and fortified Ports that are produced in the Douro region of the country. This holds true in Hampton Roads, despite the growing array of Portuguese labels available here and the attention these wines are beginning to get in various media.
I came across a column the other day from 1992 in which I resolved to drink more Portuguese wines because I had found that no other country produced such a variety of inexpensive, yet interesting wines.
