Jul. 29--JAMES CITY -- Ida Copeland's son turned 17 last week. But he didn't want to celebrate, she said, because his best friend Rabon Smith couldn't be there. Smith, 17, was killed May 12 in a botched drug robbery at the Reeds Gate subdivision near Chickahominy Road.
His death was the subject of three preliminary hearings Friday, where a James City judge found probable cause to uphold charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a robbery against Kareem Antoine Landers, 20, Andre Lamont Meekins, 18, and Lamars Meekins, 17. Lamars Meekins, who turns 18 in September, was certified Friday to stand trial ...
