Jul. 30--WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel's declaration that Iraq has become an "absolute replay of Vietnam" provoked strong reactions from defense experts and the White House on Saturday. The Nebraska Republican made the comparison in a Friday interview with The World-Herald, where he also sharply criticized the Pentagon's plans to boost U.S. forces in Iraq. "He's absolutely right," Lawrence Korb, a former senior Defense Department official in the Reagan administration, said of the Vietnam comparison. "The signs are all around."
