AN AMME TER WILL REVEAL alternator health, plus it will monitor your batteries. It measures how much current is being used by operating electrical equipment-stereo, running lights, cabin lights, etc. And it also indicates how much charging current is being generated by a high-output alternator or solar panel.
Both analog and digital models are available. Although more expensive, a digital readout will show exactly how many amps are flowing with more precision than an analog gauge. Analog meters cost from $30 to $50; a digital meter goes for about $200.
