Jul. 30--KUWAIT -- A proposal to raise the national social allowance of Kuwaiti citizens by KD 50 has sparked strong reactions from some of the remaining two thirds of the country -- Kuwait's expatriate residents. Many of these people fear that such a step might cause the price of many consumer goods to rise and thus negatively affect the purchasing power of their incomes. The Cabinet will discuss the proposal today. Also, a 200-dinar Amiri grant to all Kuwaitis decreed last week has added to their fears.
