Jul. 30--History haunts black Americans. What they know about their past is slavery. What they don't know is their connection to ancestral homelands before the slave trade. Without records, family trees died with the forced migration across the Atlantic. A new hope to unearth roots is here: DNA testing. Genetic research, commonly used in forensics, has assumed a familial application. It might provide answers that traditional genealogical sleuthing has failed to uncover.
