Jul. 30--PROVIDENCE -- As the Route 195 relocation project approaches its midpoint, the most visible signs of its progress are the structures that will connect the new highway to Route 95.

Those concrete piers, and the steel beams going on them, are being built south of downtown on the sides of Route 95, to carry the ramps that will form a new interchange linking the highways.

The ramps, though, will quickly be upstaged in late August, when the arch bridge that is the centerpiece of the project arrives by barge from Quonset Point, in North Kingstown.
