Jul. 31--WILKES-BARRE -- Sgt. Richard Chesnet wasn't sure what was happening the night of April 5, 2004, until he heard 1st Sgt. Francis Poperowitz yell, "RPGs." It was then that Chesnet, of Benton, realized his platoon was under attack from rocket-propelled grenades at the Al Nasir Sadr City Police Station in Baghdad, Iraq -- a station he and his fellow Pennsylvania Army National Guardsmen were ordered to "defend at all costs." Chesnet, Poperowitz and 121 other members of the Guard's 109th Field Artillery were honored Sunday at a ceremony at the 109th's armory on Market Street, and were awarded Combat Action Badges for valiantly ...
