HARRISBURG, Pa., July 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Education today announced new federal guidelines to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price school meals and free milk.

"Students who eat a balanced, healthy diet usually perform better in the classroom," said Education Secretary Dr. Gerald L. Zahorchak. "Ensuring all students are provided balanced and nutritional meals is another vital component to increasing student achievement."

Issued annually by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the new guidelines are effective until June 30, 2007. The National School Lunch Act requires the adjustments every year to reflect changes ...
