Deal or No Deal? Answer: No Deal
The collapse of global trade negotiations, the World Trade Organization's Doha round, is disappointing for free-trade enthusiasts but a real blow to the hopes of the developing world. The outcome was supposed to be a deal to reduce rich-nation agricultural tariffs and subsidies, thereby providing expanded markets for poorer countries with agriculture-dependent economies. Advocates envisioned a win-win outcome that would also expand rich-nation exports by easing some of the protectionist restrictions imposed by developing countries.
