Aug. 2--Matt Cain brought the kind of stuff that ends losing streaks. The rest of the team didn't.
So the skid continued Tuesday night, extending to nine games, as the Giants fell 4-1 to the Washington Nationals in Felipe Alou's 2,000th game as a big league manager. The Giants dropped to last place in the National League West.
The last time the Giants lost as many games in succession was in 1996, when they dropped 10 in a row.
