A handful of Hampton Roads residents have been heavily involved in Virginia Beach's sister cities program with hopes of fostering peace through cross-cultural partnerships.
They've arranged cultural exchanges, taken overseas trips, organized an international music festival and paid tribute to friends abroad with a garden.
Sister Cities International recently recognized those individuals for their work .
