Aug. 3--MIDDLETOWN -- Three emergency alert systems failed during a water boil advisory affecting thousands of residents Tuesday night, causing some to question the city's efforts to ensure public health.
Signs posted on closed city businesses Wednesday alerted some Middletown residents to the advisory, but others said they had been drinking the water in the meantime.
A water main connected to the Manchester Road water tower broke at
about 5 p.m. Tuesday, said Public Works Director Ginger Smith.
"In order to be safe we shut down a whole tower," she said.
