Aug. 3--Now that Okaloosa County commissioners have approved a lower tentative millage rate, it remains to be seen if the savings will entice voters into supporting a 1-cent sales tax referendum Sept. 5.
At a budget workshop this week, commissioners voted to tentatively drop the rate from 4.25 mills to 3.95 mills.
Despite increased assessment values, residents who live in homes with homestead exemptions should see modest savings.
"The board felt that with the county's increased property valuation, we needed to adjust the millage accordingly," Commission Chairwoman Sherry Campbell said in a news release.
