A friend of mine called the other day with an interesting analysis of the race to succeed Thabo Mbeki as president of the ANC.
"I have the real reason why people in the Jacob Zuma camp would see Cyril Ramaphosa as a threat to Zuma's path to the throne," my friend said excitedly.
He pointed out that back in 1991, at the ANC's first conference in South Africa, Ramaphosa handed a humbling defeat to Zuma and ANC veteran Alfred Nzo to become the secretary-general of the ANC.
