Article: Cox & SW Bell wed with $4.9B deal. (Cox Enterprises Inc. Cox Cable Communications; Southwestern Bell Corp.)

The mating ritual between MSOs and telcos progressed last week, with Cox Cable Communications Inc. and Southwestern Bell Corp. agreeing to form a $4.9 billion partnership to pursue cable and telephony.

The two companies formed a joint venture to which SW Bell provides the cash and Cox contributes virtually all of its cable systems. Initially, Cox will own 60 percent of the venture, although SW Bell has the option to raise its 40 percent stake to 50 percent.
