There are no "Welcome'' signs posted in Mettawa; no quaint town to cruise through. Few even know it exists. This enclave snuggled due west of Lake Forest is a dust particle on the map.
But the house lots are anything but microscopic, making it a secluded and spacious community for those who can afford it. Village regulations
require homes to be on minimum 5-acre lots, though many are larger.
Owing to its backwoods feel, Mettawa is the second home of Chicago scenesters Donna LaPietra and Bill Kurtis, among others seeking a respite from big-city commotion.
