Carol Weston wasn't surprised last month when a national women's health group announced that American women are dangerously ignorant about sexually transmitted diseases.
As an educator for Planned Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona, Weston said, she is used to getting the silent treatment when she brings up the subject of so-called STDs during speaking engagements.
``There is a large amount of shame associated with this particular issue,''Weston said.
``If you had a sore on your arm that needed attention, you would think nothing about getting treatment. But if the sore is on the genitals, people go into denial.
