Thirteen million cases of sexually transmitted diseases are diagnosed annually in the United States. Of these, 86 percent of the patients are 15 to 29 years old.
_Women are more severely affected by sexually transmitted diseases than men because they are less likely to experience symptoms until the disease is in an advanced stage.
