ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- British Petroleum Co. plc (BP) unit BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. reported it struck oil about three miles southeast of the Milne Point field recently acquired from DuPont unit Conoco Inc. and Chevron Corp.
The Cascade No. 1 exploratory well, the first of five exploratory wells drilled on Alaska's North Slope by BP in 1993, discovered several oil-bearing zones, the company said. A sidetrack drilled from the well confirmed the discovery.
The announcement comes several months after analysis confirmed an oil discovery, BP spokesman Paul Laird said.
