Aug. 5--Justin Herron was the last of the eight Midlands pros on Friday able to make the Cox Classic cut. But he came up a birdie short.
With some 50 people in his gallery, Herron went for the green with his tee shot on the par-4 ninth hole. The assistant pro at Ironwood Golf and Country Club has the length to reach it, but his drive caught the southeast wind and bounced into a bunker. His sand shot left him with a chip shot for the birdie. He ran it just past the hole to finish at 4 under in a vain attempt to play the weekend rounds for the first time in four tries.
