The Checkers Hotel Kempinski, a landmark downtown Los Angeles property long rumored to be have serious financial problems, has gone into receivership.
And two blocks away, a new general manager has been named at the year-old Hotel Inter-Continental.
By far the more significant change is at the Checkers, a 188-room luxury property that has struggled in a depressed downtown hotel market.
Ted Darnall said last week he has been appointed receiver of the hotel by the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Sumitomo Bank, the main lender on the property, petitioned the court about a month ago to appoint a receiver and is now negotiating with the hotel owners to ...
