Otis Nixon, a switch-hitting outfielder who was third in the National League with 47 stolen bases in 1993, left the Atlanta Braves to sign a $7-million, two-year contract with the Boston Red Sox of the American League.

Nixon, who turns 35 in January, can earn $9.5 million over three years if the Red Sox exercise an option for 1996. The Red Sox, hampered throughout 1993 by a lack of outfield speed, made the multi-million dollar deal with the free agent because of his outstanding play with the Braves.
