10:00AM: I meet Bettye in the lobby of her Midtown Manhattan apartment building. As usual, she is sporting a chic outfit and a glowing smile. Today we're going to her country house in North Salem, N.Y. , an old farm house built in 1791 that she and her husband, Michael, bought around Thanksgiving of last year. She's in the process of decorating it, and I know I'm in for a treat, seeing as Bettye has a great eye for design.
