They say the requiem for the Viking Bar was sweet - in a rockin' sort of way.
There were sweaty people dancing on the bar. Sweaty people dancing on the sidewalk outside. Willie Murphy, drenched with sweat, was playing lead guitar, singing and having the time of his life with his pals in the Little Viking Band.
"My high falsetto was there," said Murphy. "I was screaming and hollering and having so much fun."
And then, just like that, it was last call. Defiant to the end, people at the Viking, including Murphy, lit up smokes of all forms. Murphy, sober for years, opted for a $10 cigar, a gift of a fan. The ...
