Aug. 8--Not-so-funny story: Two years ago, Bruce Richardson got smacked in the face with a slap shot while playing for Danbury. Because it was the playoffs, he opted to delay surgery and continue playing. During his first shift the next day, he nailed someone with a body check at center ice.
That's the kind of old-school, throwback player Richardson is. It usually takes a broken bone to knock him out of the lineup, and even then he's back well before the predicted time. He has never tweaked a groin or strained a hamstring or suffered a high ankle sprain.
