Stowe, Vt. -- Extraocular sebaceous carcinoma is as virulent as its ocular counterpart, and the aggressive metastatic capability of both underscores the need for early recognition and treatment of this rare type of neoplasm, said Dr. Jonathan L. Cook at a dermatology conference sponsored by the University of Vermont.
Prompt diagnosis and management of sebaceous carcinoma are challenging in part because it is so uncommon--accounting for less than 1% of cutaneous malignancies and 1%-5% of ocular malignancies--and because it shares clinical and histologic characteristics with other cutaneous and ophthalmologic conditions, according to Dr. Cook, director of ...
