Relenza (zanamivir for GlaxoSmithKline)
An antiviral for prophylaxis of influenza in adults and children aged 5 years and older. Previously approved for treating uncomplicated acute illness caused by influenza A or B virus in patients aged 7 years and older who have had symptoms for no more than 2 days. Oral oseltamivir (Tamiflu) is already approved for preventing and treating influenza in patients as young as 1 year.
Recommended Dosage: 10 mg once a day (two inhalations) for 10 days in household settings and 28 days in community settings (during seasonal outbreaks). Should be given at about the same time each day.
