The Cambridge Companion to Science Fiction is the book we've been waiting impatiently for without knowing it. One we can send our students to knowing that they will return stimulated by what they find there. For example, the Companion's editors eschew definition in favor of claiming that "sf is a discussion" (2). This strategy works as the Companion itself becomes its own best illustration of the kind of wide-ranging significant discussion sf engenders.
