SMS service developed for emergencies
West Yorkshire police are widening the reach of a service that enables people with speach and hearing impairment in the area to contact 999 via SMS.
People text their message to 07786 200200 and the SMS is automatically converted into an email, which is forwarded to
the police force's communications centre.
The supervisor at
the centre then replies to the caller with any relevant questions to assess the situation and offer the relevant police response.
