Background

The debate over whether women should breastfeed their babies in public has intensified in the past weeks. Two recent incidents illustrate the divide between people who feel women shouldn't nurse in public and those who believe it's a natural act that shouldn't be hidden.

Early in July, a woman on a shopping trip to a Victoria's Secret store in Racine found it difficult to get a dressing room where she could nurse her baby. Staff members were uncooperative, and the woman left. But she posted a note on a Mothering.com message board, and within a week, women organized nurse-ins outside Victoria's Secret stores. ...
