Like any changes in an organization, emerging document management strategies won't be easy for some employees to accept.
Faced with ever-declining reimbursement rates, officials at Leesburg (Fla.) Regional Medical Center in early 2005 knew they had to get aggressive about looking for ways to save money.
One line item stood out like a sore thumb. "We noticed our expenses on copiers were astronomical," says Tommy Banks Jr., materials management analyst. "We had a copier in every corner of the building." The 309-bed hospital also had an overabundance of fax machines and laser printers. Like the copiers, many of these devices were underutilized.
