Black Indiana professionals were outraged by the Indiana State Medical Association's (ISMA) annual reception invitation which depicts Blacks as cannibals.

The ISMA distributed the "racist" invitations to its 7,000 physician-members and various guests, including the Indiana state legislature, for its annual reception. The theme this year was "Jungle Fever."

The invitation has three parts--each with an unflattering depiction of Blacks drawn on it. The outer envelope bore a drawing of a Black man in a grass skirt, a large bone protruding through his nose, just above his exaggerated lips. The man was also holding a machete.
