THINK of World Heritage Sites and images of the pyramids at Giza or the Great Wall of China probably spring to mind.
Now somewhere closer to home is hoping to join those places of international renown - Blackpool.
The Lancashire town, with its tower, ballroom and pleasure beach, wants to be designated a World Heritage Site on the grounds that it was the first and greatest mass working-class seaside resort.
The move is being taken so seriously that even the world of archaeology is being urged to open its eyes to Blackpool's delights.
