THE day-trippers enjoying their lattes in one of Ilfracombe's smarter restaurants probably don't even know they are sitting in Damien Hirst's latest business venture - nor that he may be one factor behind booming house prices in this sleepy North Devon port.
Hirst, the artist whose memorable work includes a cow and sheep suspended in formaldehyde, has been more restrained in his choice of decor for 11 The Quay, the Victorian pub he has restored on the town's seafront.
But with a Michelin star, Good Food Guide recommendation and AA Rosettes for cooking, the venture is a symbol of how Ilfracombe is changing.
