Aug. 12--If the occurrence of conjoined twins is rare, why have there been two sets born in Minnesota in nine months? It's probably just coincidence that Suzy Fitterer of Bismarck, N.D., gave birth to conjoined twin girls Tuesday and Amy Carlsen of Fargo, N.D., delivered her twin girls last November -- both sets born in Minneapolis hospitals. What's remarkable isn't the proximity of the births; it's that both sets of conjoined twins have survived, according to experts in maternal-fetal medicine.
