Aug. 12--The Tennessee Highway Patrol has launched its largest-ever back-to-school safety effort to ensure that students stay safe as they travel to and from school this year. In August alone, state troopers across Tennessee will devote 850 work hours to enforcing school zone laws, officials said. "It takes a while for the motoring public to realize schools are back in session, so they tend to disobey school zones," Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Col. Albert Strawther said. "Our primary responsibility is to keep (the zones) safe." State troopers will camp out at school zones, follow buses and sometimes ride on buses, he said. They ...
