Aug. 13--The competitive side of the Shaw Cup golf tournament has been an unequivocal success in the 11 years of its existence.
The event, patterned after the Ryder Cup, brings together local amateur teams from public courses and private clubs. Since it began in 1995, the best-ball, alternate-shot and individual matches have produced some of the most memorable, dramatic and tension-filled moments of their respective golf seasons.
The on-course excitement often has overshadowed the financial side of the tournament, which also has been an unequivocal success.
