NEWLY-FORMED Runcorn Linnets made an excellent debut in the North West Counties League with a comfortable 4-0 win at Ashton Town.
Andy McCoy scored the Linnets' first goal in competitive league football on 12 minutes and further second-half strikes from Mick Young, Colin Quirke and Paul Scott sealed victory.
Bootle, playing their first game at New Bucks Park on their return to the League after five years, went down to a lone Paul Fyldes goal for visitors Padiham.
Formby had a disappointing start when losing 3-0 at Maine Road and St Helens Town fared no better when conceding two goals in the last 10 minutes ...
