Aug. 14--This year, kids will notice a change in vending machines at middle schools and high schools.
Schools are responding to federal requirements to increase the percentage of healthy choices available in vending machines; in Rochester it will be 80 percent. The kind of treats allowed in vending machines, the classroom, at parties and events will change.
What will be in vending machines? According to Nicole Ferrara, communications coordinator for Rochester Public Schools, string cheese, 100-percent fruit juices, granola bars, low-fat yogurts, baked chips, milk, fruits, nuts and vegetables. Expect to also see things like ...
