Hungary's GDP growth slows to 3.6% in Q2, below expectations - first estimate

BUDAPEST. AUGUST 15. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - Hungary's gross domestic product (GDP) rose 3.6% year on year (y/y) in the second quarter of 2006, according to first estimate data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and its research arm Ecostat on Tuesday.

The figure is below market expectations of a 4.2% rise, and is also lower than y/y growth rates in the past few quarters.

Following a y/y GDP growth rate of 4.6% in the first quarter of the year, GDP growth for the first six months of 2006 came to 4.1% y/y, the KSH said.
