Ryan Jones pulled up next to a white sedan parked in front of Millard Hawk Primary School in Central Square, then cranked the steering wheel to the right and began to back up.
Once, twice, Jones - a junior in the fall at J.C. Birdlebough High School in Phoenix - tried to parallel park without hitting the curb or ending up too far away.
"You came in too wide that time," said teacher William Lonis. "Try it again."
The third time was the charm, as Jones eased the 2006 Mercury Milan into place within a foot of the curb.
