It has been said that Robin Hood, the legendary English outlaw, born around 1160, who robbed the rich and gave to the poor, was in real life the outlawed Earl of Huntingdon, Robert Fitzooth, in disguise. Over the years, a number of candidates have been put forward as to who the real Robin Hood was. But the fact that Hood, Hode and even Hod were common surnames in medieval times have complicated things for those historians hoping to discover the true identity of the famed fugitive.
