Speaking up for technology concerns

The IT sector does not have the influence

it deserves despite its pervasive contribution

to the UK economy, writes Sarah Arnott

z The problem with technology is that it is both everywhere and nowhere. The result is a sector of the economy with a disproportionately quiet voice.

This is no plea for better breaks for EDS or IBM. But the issues facing the sector as a whole are central to UK competitiveness, while the IT industry's peculiar character sets it apart from more traditional equivalents.
