Aug. 17--In defending what they do for a living, teachers often say the money isn't what keeps them going. Instead, it's what they do for kids that counts.

The same can be said for school sports coaches, who put in long hours for little pay.

"I've never, ever complained about the long hours or the environment," said Amphitheater High School football coach Vern Friedli. "I'm really lucky because my family has been supportive, and I've felt like it's been a great opportunity."
