Aug. 16--Wrinkles are appearing on El Paso County's face.
The population age 65 and older here is growing faster than the overall population, according to new estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The number of people 65 and older increased 9.9 percent from 2000 to 2005 to a total of 49,215, the Census Bureau estimated. The overall population, meanwhile, increased 6.4 percent.
The 65-and-older population also is increasing faster here than in other areas. The statewide average increase for the age group was 6.4 percent, and nationally there was a decline of nearly 1 percent.
