Aug. 18--By his own admission, singer-songwriter Todd Snider wanted The Devil You Know to be topical without mentioning Iraq or the president.
With apologies to Neil Young, these 11 character-driven songs are more entertaining than Young's blunt statements on Living With War, even if you can't shake your fist to them. Along the way, Snider deftly sneaks in sly commentary about poverty, privilege, peace and, yes, politics. "You Got Away With It (A Tale of Two Fraternity Brothers)" is a Bush song that's a million miles away from "Let's Impeach the President."
