Aug. 19--When it comes to producing solar energy, nobody in the Bay Area does it better than San Jose.
A non-profit group hoping to inspire a bit of friendly competition among municipal neighbors released an analysis this week of the California Energy Commission's data, which found that San Jose produces more kilowatts of solar energy even though San Francisco has more solar roofs.
San Jose's solar roofs produced about 1.4 million kilowatts of solar energy compared with San Francisco's 1.1 million kilowatts, although San Franciscans have built 383 solar roofs compared with San Jose's 373.
