Aug. 20--VICTORVILLE -- Abused animals in the High Desert now have the long arm of the law on their side to fight for their rights.

T he protection comes thanks to a newly created Animal Cruelty Investigations Program sponsored by PAL Humane Society in Victorville.

"We're here to protect animals from people," said Jamie Troester, Victorville's only humane investigator. "It's just the opposite of an animal control officer whose job it is to protect people from animals."

When Troester is sworn in for the job next week, she will have the power to arrest residents who are violating animal laws.
